Job Title: Public Health Officer
Locality: North
Email Address: Katherine.Maguire@doncaster.gov.uk
I have been interested in community development work for a long time, which began during a volunteering placement in India in 2017. I have since travelled to Nepal to carry out research on women’s health whilst studying for my Masters of Public Health in International Development. I realised that whilst there’s a lot to be done all over the world to improve people’s health and wellbeing and reduce inequalities, there’s also loads that can be done on our doorstep!
Before working for Well Doncaster I was a Social Prescribing Link Worker in Sheffield. This allowed me to understand the needs of local communities through one-to-one support in empowering residents to improve their health and wellbeing, and improve income through financial guidance and benefits support. This work with the NHS was extremely rewarding but I wanted to do something more and make a difference on a bigger scale which is what brought me to Well Doncaster.
I’m new to Doncaster and to the team and am learning as much as I can so that I can give back and support the communities of North Doncaster.
Fun Fact: I’ve recently started trail running – it feels absolutely crazy running up and down hills in the mud and the rain but I love it!
What people appreciate about me: I’m a good listener and can usually come up with solutions to difficult situations where everybody is respected and treated with kindness.
What is important to me: My family are hugely important to me – and being able to get out into the fresh air to get muddy!
The thing I enjoy best about being part of Well Doncaster: I feel so passionate about reducing inequalities and supporting those who need it the most. I really appreciate that Well Doncaster is working to combat inequalities and support local community groups and residents in everything they do.
